Controversy king Bill O’Reilly put his foot in his mouth with Jessica Alba, insinuating the movie star Jessica Alba was dumb on his show. Bill O’Reilly’s show had a segment that focused on Jessica Alba’s intelligence (or alleged lack thereof). More on Bill O’Reilly and Jessica Alba’s feud below.
Jessica Alba has employed the power of the net, using her Celebrity MySpace blog to defend herself over accusations made by Bill O’Reilly and TMZ.com that she is dumb.
When a reporter approached Jessica Alba at an inauguration event for President Obama, Jessica tried to turn the tables on him by asking him what Barack Obama’s greatest characteristic was. When the reporter said he felt uncomfortable answering because he is a journalist, Alba replied, “be neutral – be Sweden about it.”
TMZ.com later called her a “ditz” and an “arrogant buffoon” for saying Sweden instead of Switzerland when referring to the neutral country during WWII.
Certainly both countries historically have remained quite neutral in global affairs when wars and conflict are involved, preferring the more play it safe role.
Yet Bill O’Reilly – whom Alba had called a lower part of one’s backside anatomy, at the same event – called her “misguided” for mixing up the countries. As if he’s never made any mistakes. Leave it to Bill O’Reilly amid desperation of having lost so many viewers since the election of President Obama to stoop to the lowest levels to try to regain viewers. Many news broadcasters say most of America has wised up and stopped watching O’Reilly a long time ago, as his biased journalism and slamming of guests is not kosher. Some say the pompous Fox News host should retire before he causes himself more shame and irrepairable harm.
But on her blog, Alba writes, “I find it depressing that, in the midst of perhaps the most salient time in our country’s history, individuals are taking it upon themselves to encourage negativity and stupidity.
“Last week, Mr. Bill O’Reilly and some really classy sites (i.e. TMZ) insinuated I was dumb by claiming Sweden was a neutral country.”
“I appreciate the fact that he is a news anchor and that gossip sites are inundated with intelligent reporting, but seriously people… it’s so sad to me that you think the only neutral country during WWII was Switzerland.”
She then linked to a wikipedia article to prove Sweden was also a neutral country.
Jessica Alba sarcastically added, “I appreciate the name calling and the accurate reporting. Keep it up!!”
Many think this is another lame attempt of Bill O’Reilly to cause controversy, while simultaneously causing himself harm and making himself look foolish. Fox News probably won’t pull O’Reilly’s program from their network …controversy sells and is popular in America.
At least TMZ.com repented of the error of their ways in a blog post vindicating Jessica Alba: “She is absolutely correct. Sweden was a neutral country … 60 years ago. We apologize for not considering the political climate of the world in 1942 when we suggested she may have meant, ‘Be Switzerland’ — a country that is currently neutral.”
No apology is expected from Bill O’Reilly, the Fox News hero who some religious right supporters think may be a bit self-righteous.
Hats off to Jessica Alba for standing up to O’Reilly! Besides if you live by the sword, you must die by it too! At the very least, the sword must cut both ways.
