To raise revenue for Florida amid decline in property values and taxes, Governor Charlie Crist has imposed an increase in the tobacco tax of around 70% (excluding on cigars).
Since I don’t smoke, the “sin tax” per say is a great way for Florida to raise its revenue against the backdrop and reality of a decline in property values (and consequential deduction in property taxes).
